L'Algérie vise 15 000 MW d'énergie verte d'ici 2030

Algeria has announced its ambitious target of producing 15,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, while laying the foundations for the strategic development of green hydrogen from 2035. These commitments are part of a national vision to transform the country's energy sector and diversify its economy.

In a recent interview on national radio, Boukhalfa Yaissi, Managing Director of the Green Energy Cluster Algeria, highlighted the country's considerable potential in renewable energies. With abundant natural resources in sun and wind, Algeria is positioning itself as a key player in the energy transition in North Africa.
"Our country has all the cards in its hand to become a regional leader in renewable energies," said Yaissi.

To achieve these objectives, Algeria is counting on a total mobilisation of its resources: natural, human and technological. The Green Energy Cluster Algeria, which brings together the main public and private players in the sector, is playing a central role in drawing up concrete roadmaps to guarantee energy efficiency and encourage innovation.

Attracting foreign investment is also a key pillar of this strategy. Operators from China, Japan and the United States have already expressed growing interest in the Algerian market, attracted by the development opportunities offered by this rapidly expanding sector.

In addition to traditional renewable energies, Algeria is also moving towards green hydrogen, a clean energy that could transform its industry and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. With abundant resources in water, sun and wind, the country has what it takes to become a major player in this promising sector.

"Green hydrogen represents an energy of the future that will open up new industrial prospects for Algeria", added Yaissi. From 2035, the aim is to develop large-scale infrastructures to produce green hydrogen, not only to meet domestic needs, but also to supply international markets.

This energy transition is part of a wider strategy of economic diversification, aimed at reducing the dependence on hydrocarbons that dominates the country's economy. It also offers a unique opportunity to strengthen international cooperation by attracting technological and financial partnerships.

Algeria is committed to becoming a regional model for sustainable development, while creating new opportunities for its citizens and playing an active role in the global fight against climate change. With an ambitious horizon and considerable resources, the country is poised to play a leading role in the energy transition in Africa and beyond.
