Algeria: Sonatrach has made six (6) hydrocarbon discoveries

SONATRACH announces that it has made six (06) hydrocarbon discoveries, in its own effort, during the first quarter of the year 2023.

Two oil and gas discoveries were made in the Amguid Messaoud basin, when the BRM-1 and BMD-1 wells were drilled with flow rates of 5,699 barrels/day of oil and 170,461 m3/day of gas recorded in the first well and flow rates of 4,856 barrels/day of oil and 255,912 m3/day of gas in the second. These results confirm the significant oil and gas potential of the Touggourt region, located east of the Hassi Messaoud field.

Also, two wells drilled in the Berkine Basin made oil and gas condensate discoveries. The first, named HAM-1bis, produced 129,048 m3/day of gas and 239 barrels/day of condensate from one reservoir and 1,905 barrels/day of oil and 137,484 m3/day of gas from a second reservoir. The second well, named SAISW-1, produced 3,117 barrels/day of oil and 219,336 m3/per day of gas.

In addition, a gas condensate discovery was made in the Ohanet region of the Illizi basin, during the drilling of the KARS-3 well, where flow rates of 336,930 m3/day of gas and 1,504 barrels/day of condensate were recorded.

Finally, an oil and gas discovery was made in the Oued Mya basin, south-east of the Hassi R'mel field, during the drilling of the LGL-2 well, where flows of 453 barrels/day of oil and 168,312 m3/day of gas were recorded.

These discoveries illustrate the relevance of SONATRACH's efforts in the exploration and renewal of hydrocarbon reserves and demonstrate the attractiveness of the mining sector in Algeria.
