An accident at Sonatrach's Skikda refinery left nine people injured, the company reported. The incident took place on November 30 at 10:00 am in a reforming unit. Sonatrach had stopped the equipment for maintenance when the accident occurred.
A government delegation, including the head of Sonatrach Toufik Hakkar and the Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab, visited the site after the accident.
Sonatrach had initially stated that the accident had injured seven people. It has increased that number to nine. The company said six of the men are now healthy and have returned home. Three remain in the hospital. One worker is reportedly badly burned.
Sonatrach said that the fire had no impact on other units, as operations were proceeding normally. Nor has it affected the supply of products to the local market. This, he said, remains guaranteed.
