Burkina Faso: Orezone aims to produce 130,000 ounces at Bomboré by 2025

Orezone Gold Corporation has published its annual results for 2024 and its outlook for the current year. The Canadian company, which operates the Bomboré gold mine, is forecasting production of 115,000 to 130,000 ounces in 2025, compared with 118,746 ounces last year. This slight increase is part of an ambitious expansion project aimed at doubling annual capacity by 2026.
In 2025, Bomboré should benefit from the start-up, in the last quarter, of a new hard rock processing plant, which will add 5,000 to 10,000 ounces to production. The existing oxide plant will remain stable at 110,000 to 120,000 ounces. This ramp-up will be accompanied by a reduction in sustaining costs, estimated at between $9 million and $10 million, compared with $16 million in 2024, thanks to the optimisation of operations.
The ongoing Bomboré expansion project aims to increase annual capacity to 185,000 ounces by the end of 2025, before reaching a maximum of 250,000 ounces in 2026. This strategy will enable Orezone to capitalise on high gold prices, which have already boosted revenues in 2024. Despite a 15% drop in volumes sold, the company generated $283 million in sales, up 4%, thanks to the surge in prices.
Orezone's initiative comes in a buoyant gold market, where demand remains strong in the face of global economic uncertainty. Bomboré, located in central Burkina Faso, is proving to be a key asset for the company as it seeks to strengthen its position among intermediate producers. The mine expansion, combined with rigorous cost management, positions Orezone to maximise profits in the years ahead.
By focusing on gradual growth, Orezone is taking a cautious approach in a country where security challenges can complicate mining operations. The new hard rock plant, by diversifying ore sources, will provide greater flexibility and resilience at Bomboré, while supporting the company's ambitions to double production by 2026.
With these prospects, Orezone Gold confirms its growing role in Burkina Faso's gold sector, contributing to the local economy while benefiting from a favourable global market.
