Côte d'Ivoire: Eni strengthens its presence with the acquisition of four new offshore blocks
Eni today announced the signing of contracts with the Côte d'Ivoire Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy for the acquisition of four new offshore exploration blocks: CI-504, CI-526, CI-706 and CI-708. The signing ceremony was held in Abidjan as part of the first edition of the Salon International des Ressources Extractives et Énergétiques (SIREXE), marking an important step in the strengthening of relations between the Italian multinational and Côte d'Ivoire.
The newly acquired blocks cover a combined area of approximately 5,720 square kilometres, located in water depths ranging from 1,000 to 3,500 metres. Their proximity to the major Calao discovery, located in block CI-205, offers strategic synergies for Eni. These new blocks will allow the company to continue its exploration activities for up to nine years, in accordance with the terms of the agreements signed.
Present in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015, Eni plays a central role in the country's energy sector. With current production of 22,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, the company already manages six blocks in Côte d'Ivoire's deep waters, in partnership with Petroci Holding: CI-101, CI-205, CI-401, CI-501, CI-801 and CI-802. Eni has distinguished itself with major discoveries, including the Baleine and Calao fields, which represent the largest discoveries ever made in the country.
Production at Baleine is progressing rapidly. Following the successful start-up of phase 1 in 2023, Eni is preparing to launch phase 2 in December 2024, increasing production from the field to 60,000 barrels of oil per day and 70 million cubic feet of associated gas (2 million cubic metres). Once phase 3 is completed, production will reach 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas, consolidating Eni's position as a key energy player in Côte d'Ivoire.
Eni continues its commitment to sustainable energy development in Côte d'Ivoire, focusing on the development of local resources and the creation of strategic partnerships. This new block acquisition not only strengthens its position in West Africa, but also contributes to the country's economic and energy growth.
With these expansion projects, Eni is reaffirming its ambition to meet growing energy demand while supporting a responsible energy transition.
