Ivory Coast: The extractive sector contributes to a 6.1% increase in industrial production

Côte d'Ivoire : Le secteur extractif contribue à une augmentation de 6,1 % de la production industrielle

Ivory Coast's industrial sector continues to show remarkable dynamism, recording annual growth of 6.1% compared with the previous year. This remarkable performance is largely attributable to the boom in the extractive sector, which is positioning itself as a key pillar of the Ivorian economy.

According to the published data, the extractive sector expanded by an impressive 20.6% in the first eight months of the year. This growth was mainly driven by hydrocarbons, which recorded a spectacular rise of 48.1%, and metal ores, up by 12.4%.

Among the most remarkable performances, crude oil stood out with growth of 90.9%, while crude gold recorded a solid rise of 16.9%. These results underline the importance of natural resources in the transformation of Ivorian industry and its increased integration into global value chains.

Other branches of industry also supported this positive dynamic:
– Production et distribution d’électricité, de gaz et d’eau : +4,4 %
– Industries environnementales : +1,7 %

However, some segments of the manufacturing sector struggled, notably food manufacturing, which recorded a 5.2% decline. This decline was partially offset by advances in :
– Traitement du caoutchouc et du plastique : +11,5 %
– Raffinage pétrolier et cokéfaction : +8,5 %

The Ivorian government aims to double the impact of industry on the national economy by 2025, with a target industrial contribution of 1.5 percentage points by that date. By 2024, the industrial sector is expected to contribute 0.6 percentage points to overall economic growth, reinforcing its central role in the country's economic development.

With an ambitious strategy and solid performance, Ivorian industry is asserting itself as a key driver of economic transformation and sustainable development in Ivory Coast
