The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Friday a significant increase in natural gas production from the Zohr gas field, with a gain of 60 million cubic feet per day. This follows the successful re-drilling of the Zohr-6 well, a key step in strengthening the country's energy supply.
The Zohr-6 well was reworked using the Saipem 10000 deepwater drilling rig, which had resumed operations on the field in January, in line with the approved development plan. After completing work on Zohr-6, the rig began drilling the Zohr-13 well. According to the engineering studies, this new well should add 55 million cubic feet of gas per day to production, thereby consolidating the field's capacity.
These operations mark a major step forward in the Ministry's strategy to boost national natural gas production. They confirm earlier forecasts and reinforce Egypt's position as a key player in regional energy security. "These efforts are part of our commitment to ensure the availability of energy for citizens and various industrial sectors, while maximising domestic production," said a Ministry official.
The success of these operations is also based on the fruitful partnership between the Ministry and the Italian company Eni, operator of the Zohr field. This partnership has enabled the effective implementation of the development plans supported by the Egyptian government as part of its policy of encouraging investment in the oil sector. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the country's resources and energy security.
With these advances, the Zohr gas field continues to play a central role in Egypt's energy strategy, helping to meet growing energy demand while enhancing the country's attractiveness to international investors in the oil sector.
