Société Minière de Boké (SMB) and the SMB-Winning Consortium are delighted to announce their participation in Mining Indaba 2025, the largest annual event for the mining industry in Africa. The event, which will be held from 3 to 6 February in Cape Town, South Africa, will provide a unique opportunity for the group to share its vision and achievements as it celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Mining Indaba is an essential platform for discussing trends and prospects in the African mining sector. The SMB-Winning Consortium will be presenting its expertise, its achievements in West Africa and its strategy for sustainable and inclusive mining development on the continent.
With its significant industrial capacity, the consortium is now one of the world's leading bauxite producers and exporters. Its workforce, comprising 4,000 employees at SMB and more than 10,000 for the consortium as a whole, illustrates its regional economic clout. Its activities generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs and make a significant contribution to Guinea's GDP.
The consortium also stands out for its major investments in infrastructure. The construction of a 125-kilometre railway line linking the Santou II and Houda plateaux to the river port of Dapilon is an emblematic example of this strategy. These infrastructures optimise mining logistics while strengthening corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, supporting local development, training and the creation of sustainable jobs.
Frédéric Bouzigues, Chief Executive Officer of SMB, said: "In the space of a decade, SMB has established itself as the leading bauxite exporter in Guinea, helping to make the country the world leader in this sector. This success is a testament to our vision, our commitment and the confidence of our partners. Presenting our story at Mining Indaba is a key opportunity to share this success and affirm our role in the development of shared prosperity in Africa.
On 3 February at 4.30pm, Ismaël Diakité, Senior Representative of the SMB-Winning Consortium, will speak on the challenges of local resource processing, value creation and the impact of ESG initiatives in the African mining sector. He will highlight the role of Guinea, which in the space of a decade has gone from being a bauxite exporter to a key player in African mining development.
Ismaël Diakité sums up the SMB-Winning Consortium's vision as follows: "Africa's mining boom is not based solely on the extraction of resources, but on their local transformation and the inclusion of communities. In ten years, the SMB-Winning Consortium has shown that an integrated, partnership-based approach can not only make Guinea a world leader in bauxite, but also lay the foundations for a more sustainable and equitable mining future for the continent.
By participating in Mining Indaba 2025, SMB and the SMB-Winning Consortium are confirming their commitment to responsible and sustainable mining development in Africa.
