Imperatus Energy, a key player in energy security in Africa

As a sponsor of the 2025 edition of African Energy Week (AEW), Imperatus Energy confirms its position as an emerging and strategic player in energy security in Central and West Africa. The event, which brings together public decision-makers, investors and industry players, provides the company with a platform to showcase its infrastructure projects, logistical capabilities and ambitions for expansion across the entire energy value chain.

Founded and based in the Republic of Congo, Imperatus Energy has embarked on a phase of strategic acceleration in recent months: creation of an upstream subsidiary to participate in the development of local production, strengthening of trading activities through a new office in Geneva, and launch of a storage infrastructure project aimed at supporting national and regional strategic reserve capacities. These initiatives position the group not only as a trader, but also as an integrated operator capable of securing supply and optimising intra-regional logistics flows.

"We want to be involved in every stage, from production to distribution, to ensure the resilience of local and regional markets," explains Oumar Semega, CEO of Imperatus Energy. According to him, the development of storage facilities and the geographical diversification of commercial hubs are essential levers for reducing delivery times, stabilising supplies and supporting the production ambitions of coastal states.

Strategic storage and logistics: a lever for regional stability

The storage terminal project led by Imperatus aims to address a structural weakness identified in several Central African countries: insufficient storage capacity in the face of growing demand and the vagaries of maritime and land-based supply. By strengthening national storage capacity and developing re-export platforms, the company aims to improve security of supply for the Republic of Congo and its neighbours, while reducing logistics costs by streamlining flows.

« L’Afrique doit miser sur ses propres forces pour bâtir une sécurité énergétique durable », avait déclaré Jean Paul Sabbach, responsable du financement commercial et du développement des affaires chez Imperatus Energy, lors du CEIF en avril. Avec une analyse de marché intégrant des données économiques, géopolitiques et environnementales, l’entreprise optimise les décisions stratégiques pour ses partenaires, favorisant ainsi une croissance inclusive.

Towards a broadening of activities: from oil to electricity?

Beyond hydrocarbons, Imperatus is now exploring opportunities in electricity trading, a move that is in line with trends in the African market, where regional grid integration and the development of renewable capacity are creating new energy management and trading needs. This diversification reflects the company's commitment to supporting the continent's energy transition, while maintaining a central role in securing liquid fuel supplies.

Increased visibility to support partnerships

Imperatus' presence at AEW 2025 is part of a strategy to boost its international visibility and credibility: the opening of offices in Geneva and Dubai strengthens the group's commercial network and facilitates connections with international investors and logistics partners. For a dynamic, market-oriented company, these gains in visibility are essential for concluding offtake agreements, attracting co-investors for infrastructure and structuring financing tailored to large-scale projects.

The challenge for society and local authorities will now be to ensure transparent project governance, secure funding and integrate these infrastructures into national energy security plans that also promote sustainable development.
