Marsa Maroc invests in the Damerjog oil terminal in Djibouti

Marsa Maroc (MSA.CS), Morocco's leading port operator, is continuing its international expansion with a new strategic investment in Damerjog Oil FZE. This ambitious project involves the construction of an oil and gas port on the coast of the Gulf of Aden in Djibouti, according to a Moroccan government decree consulted on Monday.

To make this investment a reality, Marsa Maroc has created a specialised subsidiary, Marsa Maroc International Logistics, which will manage the project through an entity called Marsa Djibouti. The latter will be responsible for overseeing activities relating to the development of the Damerjog port.

The investment is aimed at strengthening Marsa Maroc's presence in the logistics supply chains of East Africa, a strategic region for global trade. Although the precise amount of this financial commitment has not been revealed, it forms part of a broader international development strategy.

Marsa Maroc International Logistics, set up to manage the company's expansion plans in Africa, has also launched Marsa Bénin to operate Terminals 1 and 5 at the Port of Cotonou in Benin. This geographical diversification underlines the port operator's commitment to developing a significant presence on the continent.

On a national level, Marsa Maroc continues to consolidate its central role in the port sector. Last June, the company won a contract to operate a container terminal in the Moroccan port of Nador West Med, a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of over three million twenty-foot equivalent units.

Marsa Maroc currently manages nine ports across Morocco, including Tanger Med 1, one of the largest transhipment ports in Africa, and the port of Casablanca. This expertise acquired in Morocco is a major asset for its international ambitions.

The investment in the Damerjog port marks a key stage in Marsa Maroc's growth strategy. By positioning itself in strategic projects in East and West Africa, the company is confirming its ambition to become a key player in African logistics chains, while contributing to the economic development of the regions it serves.
