Mauritanie : TGS signe un accord avec l'État pour fournir des données clés sur le sous-sol

TGS, a world leader in data and energy intelligence, has signed an agreement with the Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy. This agreement aims to integrate, enhance and license additional underground data, consolidating TGS' position as the sole provider of multi-client underground data in Mauritania.

Thanks to this agreement, TGS will significantly expand the onshore and offshore data available in Mauritania. The new underground data include ten narrow-azimuth 3D seismic entry surveys, processed by ION in 2022 using 3D pre-stack depth migration, producing a merged and migrated volume of 19,092 km². In addition, around 84,000 km² of 3D surveys from offshore block relinquishments, offshore and onshore wells, and around 20,000 line-km of onshore 2D seismic data in the Taoudeni Basin are available.

Offshore exploration in Mauritania has focused on the Cenozoic salt-draped fairway zones, illustrated by the discovery of the Chinguetti field in 2001. Since then, the majority of drilling has targeted this confirmed zone. Recent exploration in deepwater and adjacent areas has revealed significant potential in the Cretaceous channel sands and shelf clastics above the carbonate platform. Untapped potential also remains in the carbonate platform and syn-rift zones.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of the Multi-Client Division at TGS, commented: "Mauritania has considerable hydrocarbon potential. These critical datasets will provide comprehensive subsurface information, linking drilled prospects to under-explored areas such as deepwater. Combined with TGS's extensive database along the MSGBC basin, these data will enable in-depth analysis of megaregions, improving understanding of analogues and variations along the margin."

Data is now available from TGS on a multi-client basis.
