Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has taken another step towards modernising its operations with the launch of the Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC). This innovative initiative aims to transform hydrocarbon operations and enhance production efficiency, according to Olufemi Soneye, Director of Corporate Communications at NNPC Ltd.
The PMCC, overseen by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), builds on the success of the pre-existing Command and Control Centre to provide enhanced oversight and improve performance in the oil and gas sector. This unified platform is part of President Bola Tinubu's vision to enhance the efficiency of Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
PMCC is designed to track hydrocarbons from production sites to export terminals, covering both Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs). With advanced analytics and data management capabilities, it provides actionable information for proactive decision-making. These capabilities improve planning, resource allocation, risk management and operational standards across the industry.
Among its key features, the PMCC integrates predictive and preventive maintenance tools. By monitoring equipment performance in real time and coordinating maintenance schedules, it guarantees the reliability and lifespan of assets.
In addition, the platform fosters collaboration by providing a secure space for sharing and communicating data. This approach enhances rapid problem resolution and promotes continuous improvement in operations.
Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC Ltd has already increased production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and aims to reach 2 million bpd. The PMCC is playing a key role in achieving this goal by optimising production capacity and improving process efficiency.
Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the PMCC relies on a team of highly qualified professionals and uses cloud-based solutions to ensure the smooth exchange of data with internal and external stakeholders. Its direct links with the security command and control centre also enhance the protection of production operations.
The launch of the PMCC reflects NNPC Ltd's commitment to innovation and excellence in the oil and gas sector. Aligned with national objectives, this initiative contributes to strengthening Nigeria's position in the global energy market while supporting the country's economic development.
With the PMCC, NNPC Ltd is showing the way for a more efficient, collaborative oil industry that is better prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.
