Senegal: Aliko Dangote wants to import Sangomar oil for his refinery

As part of his strategy to diversify crude oil supply sources, billionaire Aliko Dangote plans to import oil from Senegal and other African countries. This initiative is aimed at supplying his refinery with diversified raw materials.

In addition to Nigerian oil, Aliko Dangote also wishes to integrate oil from countries such as Senegal, Libya and Angola into the supply of his refinery. In an interview with the local press, the executive announced that preliminary discussions had been initiated with several oil-producing countries, including Senegal, Angola and Libya.

"We're going to start importing crude oil from African countries. You know, for crude oil, you have to book two months in advance. So I would say that in October, we'll be importing from these African countries," said Aliko Dangote. He also pointed out that his Lekki refinery had already imported cargoes of crude from the USA and Brazil. However, these imports have not been sufficient to fully exploit the capacity of the plant, which must operate at a rate of 650,000 barrels/day.

Dangote's initiative is primarily part of a diversification strategy to counter the irregularity of Nigerian production. Senegal, which recently entered the circle of African oil producers thanks to the Sangomar field, joins Angola and Libya, two major oil producers on the continent, in contributing to the supply of the refinery.

It is also important to note that the theft of oil, which has been taking place for almost two years in certain African countries, has caused the Dangote refinery to lose its status as the world's leading oil producer. The plant had to meet a production quota of 1.75 million barrels/day set by OPEC. To meet this target, Dangote decided to extend its supply network to several African countries.
