Senegal consolidates its position in the hydrocarbons sector with record performance in April 2025

Senegal's Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines has published a detailed report on the performance of the main oil and gas fields for April 2025, confirming the growing strength of the country's energy sector and its increasing integration into international markets.

The Sangomar oil field continues to show impressive momentum. In April, four new cargoes (SAN027, SAN028, SAN029 and SAN030), totalling 3.8 million barrels of crude oil, were successfully exported. These figures testify to the robustness of our infrastructure and the efficiency of our production model. For 2025 as a whole, production is forecast at 30.53 million barrels, consolidating Senegal's position as one of Africa's leading oil producers.

A historic milestone has been reached with the first export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, shared between Senegal and Mauritania. The GTA_2025_001 cargo, loaded on 15 April 2025, represents a volume of 163,259 m³, or 3.71 million MMBtu. This operation marks the official entry of both countries into the global LNG market, a strategic sector for the regional economy. GTA's facilities continue to be gradually commissioned, with production set to increase in the coming months.

The Gadiaga gas field continues to perform strongly, with marketed production of 548,078 standard cubic metres (Nm³) of natural gas in the first quarter of 2025. In April, monthly production amounted to 219,809 Nm³, reflecting rigorous resource management and regular supply to the local market.

These results confirm Senegal's growing role in the African and global energy landscape. The combination of rising oil production, a successful entry into the LNG market and effective management of gas resources positions the country as a key player. The Ministry of Energy, Oil and Mines stresses that these advances open up major economic opportunities, while strengthening regional cooperation, particularly with Mauritania.

As Senegal continues to invest in energy infrastructure and optimise its fields, observers agree that 2025 marks a decisive turning point for the country's energy industry.
