Senegal - Local content in projects: 3862 jobs generated in 2021
Within the framework of the development of the gas (Gta) and oil (Sangomar) projects, as well as the renovation of the Société africaine de raffinage (Sar), 3862 jobs have been generated in 2021.
Oil and gas projects are starting to generate local content. After analysing the local content execution reports of oil and gas companies for the year 2021, the Technical Secretariat of the National Committee for Local Content Monitoring (St-Cnscl) counted 3862 jobs generated. As regards training, 55,648 hours were provided. In terms of market share won by local companies, the St-Cnscl has counted more than 218 billion CFA francs in the year 2021.
With regard to the contribution of companies operating in the value chain to the challenges of sustainable development, 2.5 billion CFA francs have been invested in social projects for the well-being of the population, according to Mor Ndiaye Mbaye. The Technical Secretary of the National Committee for the Follow-up of Local Content was speaking last week at an information and sharing workshop with the economic press on the progress of the Sangomar oil and Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (Gta) gas projects.
These projects are making great strides, according to the presentations of the various Petrosen technicians. For the development of the Gta gas field, they reported a level of execution of 83%. As for the Sangomar oil project, it is more than 60% complete.
The Minister of Oil and Energy, Aïssatou Sophie Gladima, who presided over the official opening of the works, judged these levels of achievement satisfactory. The first barrel of oil from the Sangomar field, operated by Woodside with reserves estimated at about 630 million barrels, is expected in the last quarter of 2023, with a projection of 100 thousand barrels per day during the first phase of operation. As for the Gta project, located on the border between Senegal and Mauritania and developed by Bp, once operational, the platform will produce 2.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year, with total gas resources in the field estimated at around 15 trillion cubic feet.
From these two projects, Mrs Gladima's collaborators point out, "Senegal expects significant financial resources. Moreover, these have already been the subject of a distribution law voted by the National Assembly, with clearly defined guiding principles such as the full budgeting of oil and gas revenues and the setting up of an intergenerational fund to take future generations into account.
