Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR), the undisputed leader in Senegal's oil industry in terms of sales, is preparing to take on a major new challenge: refining the crude oil extracted from the Sangomar field. This step marks a significant advance in the country's march towards energy sovereignty.
The management of SAR would like to congratulate all its staff for their work in preparing this major operation. Thanks to their professionalism and dedication, the preliminary stages have been successfully completed. Under the supervision of SAR's Loading Master, the unloading of the first vessel carrying the Sangomar crude was able to start safely.
This achievement illustrates not only the technical expertise of SAR's employees, but also their unwavering patriotic commitment. Their involvement in this strategic project reinforces Senegal's place on the African and international energy scene.
In the coming days, Sangomar's crude oil will be refined to produce various essential derivatives such as petrol, diesel, paraffin and BTS fuel oil. This production will help to reduce Senegal's dependence on imports of refined petroleum products, while ensuring better cost control and a more secure national energy supply.
SAR also has big ambitions for the future. By 2028, it plans to have a second refining site in place. This structuring project aims to fully meet the growing needs of the national and sub-regional market, while complying with Afri 6 ecological and quality specifications.
The management of SAR would like to express its deep gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic, to the Prime Minister, to the Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines, and to the entire government for their constant support. Their commitment to the development of SAR and to Senegal's energy sovereignty is an essential lever for the country's autonomy and prosperity.
With this new step, SAR confirms its role as a pillar of the energy sector and its commitment to accompany Senegal towards a more autonomous and prosperous future in terms of energy resources.
