Sénégal : Lancement officiel du projet de gazoduc du Segment Nord pour le "Gas-to-Power"

On August 6, 2025, the Senegal Gas Network officially launched the Northern Segment gas pipeline project, a decisive step toward energy sovereignty as part of the "Gas-to-Power" strategy. A kick-off meeting brought together the main players involved in this strategic initiative, marking the start of an ambitious project aimed at transforming the country's energy landscape.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Technical Committee, including the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines (MEPM), SENELEC, and the PETROSEN Group, alongside the Senegalese Gas Network (RGS). Also present were the Sicilsaldo Group – Enereco – MICOPERI consortium, awarded the EPC-F (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract, as well as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) ENERCAP SAS, accompanied by its local partners GENHY Conseils and FONDASOL.

Opening the meeting, Mr. Cheikh NIANE, Secretary General of MEPM, and Mr. Pape Momar LO, Managing Director of RGS S.A., emphasized the strategic importance of this gas pipeline for Senegal. They stressed the need for high-quality execution, strict adherence to deadlines and contractual commitments, as well as flawless reliability at every stage of the project. "This project is a cornerstone of our ambition to ensure sustainable and sovereign energy for Senegal," they said.

The main objective of this meeting was to define a precise and coordinated roadmap. Discussions focused on technical requirements and deadlines, local content obligations, and environmental and social requirements. This collaborative approach aims to ensure perfect alignment between all stakeholders in order to successfully complete this large-scale project.

A highlight of the meeting was the signing of service orders related to the EPC-F contract and PMC services, officially marking the start of project execution, referred to as T0. This milestone symbolizes the transition to action and the firm commitment of stakeholders to realize this energy vision.

The Senegal Gas Network has reaffirmed its commitment to managing this project with rigor and transparency, while promoting a spirit of synergy among stakeholders. This exemplary governance will be essential to overcoming the challenges inherent in an infrastructure project of this scale and achieving the objectives set.

The North Segment gas pipeline is part of a broader strategy to exploit national gas resources to meet Senegal's energy needs. By reducing dependence on imports, this project will strengthen energy security while stimulating the local economy through its focus on local content.

With this launch, Senegal is laying the foundations for a major energy transformation. The success of this undertaking will depend on the collective commitment and determination of all stakeholders to make this project a model of sustainable and inclusive development.
