The information was communicated on X by the Senegalese Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, whose delegation visited the FPSO construction site in Singapore on Tuesday.

Last month, Australian company Woodside, which operates the Sangomar project, revised the project start-up schedule and cost estimate, after identifying the necessary refurbishment work on the FPSO.

Production start-up is now scheduled for mid-2024, and the total cost of the project is expected to be between $4.9 and $5.2 billion, an increase of 7-13% on the previous estimate of $4.6 billion.

The FPSO, supplied by MODEC under the main EPC contract, is a converted Very Large Crude Carrier and has been named in honor of Senegal's first president, Léopold Sédar Senghor. It will have the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day.

Woodside is the operator and holds an 82% interest in the Sangomar project, with PETROSEN holding the remaining 18%.

Once completed, Sangomar will become Senegal's first producing offshore oil project.
