Sénégal : L'État et la coopération allemande lancent l’étude de pré-faisabilité sur l’hydrogène

The workshop to launch the pre-feasibility study on the potential for hydrogen production in Senegal was held on the premises of KFW. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Mr Cheikh NIANE, in the presence of the Head of the German-Senegalese cooperation delegation and the Director of KfW.

This study is part of the financial cooperation between Germany and Senegal. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) has asked KFW to support Senegal in carrying out a pre-feasibility study for this energy source.

According to Mr NIANE, "hydrogen remains an essential component for moving away from fossil fuels in a number of sectors, such as mobility".

He added that "the completion of this study is a major step towards the deployment of this resource in our country. It will provide guidelines for the implementation of a legal and regulatory framework adapted to our socio-economic, environmental and energy realities".

It will provide guidelines for future national policies and regulations for the development of this sector. "The opportunities are numerous, and if we are to meet our climate commitments, it is important to explore all avenues to promote sustainable development".

Mr NIANE reiterated that "Senegal's position is to make a fair, equitable and gradual energy transition to enable our country, which has contributed little to the effects of climate change, to exploit its oil and gas resources". He also reiterated the Senegalese government's thanks to the German government for its ongoing support for the development of the energy sector. German cooperation remains committed to supporting Senegal in this process, as the country has a potential that will benefit the energy sector.
