Senegal - Mauritania: Oceaneering wins a multi-year contract with BP for the GTA field

Oceaneering, the Texas-based leader in subsea engineering and applied technologies, has been selected by BP Mauritania Investments, a subsidiary of UK oil giant BP, for a major subsea mission on the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas field, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal. The project, considered to be the flagship of BP's energy portfolio, marks a key milestone in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the region, with first production achieved earlier this year.
Under the contract, Oceaneering's Offshore Projects Group (OPG) will provide subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) services, as well as remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services. These services will be supported by a multi-purpose vessel equipped with two working ROVs, mobilised to support operations in the field. The contract has an initial duration of three years and includes two options for extensions of one year each. The work will also include project management, engineering and integration services, mobilising both local and international Oceaneering personnel.
Ben Laura, Oceaneering's Chief Operating Officer, welcomed the collaboration: "Oceaneering has demonstrated its ability to deliver safe and effective IMR solutions on a global scale. Our expertise in complex subsea environments, combined with state-of-the-art technologies, was instrumental in winning this contract. We look forward to supporting BP in this strategic project.
Engineering and pre-mobilisation activities have already begun, with field operations scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2025. This timetable comes on the heels of the first production of LNG from Phase 1 of the project, which took place less than a month after Golar LNG's Gimi FLNG was supplied with gas by the GTA FPSO, located around 40 kilometres offshore.
The contract strengthens Oceaneering's position in the subsea engineering market, while the company posted a solid financial performance in the first quarter of 2025. With sales of $675 million, up 13% year-on-year, Oceaneering is benefiting from strong ROV utilisation and vessel activity.
This partnership with BP illustrates Oceaneering's expertise in providing high-quality subsea solutions and its ability to meet the requirements of large-scale energy projects in complex environments.
