Senegal - Mauritania: BP announces a "delay" in the GTA gas project, postponed to the first quarter of 2024

BP has published its results for the second quarter of 2023. Underlying earnings at replacement cost for the quarter were $2.6 billion, compared with $5.0 billion for the previous quarter. Reported earnings for the quarter were $1.8 billion, compared with $8.2 billion for the first quarter 2023.

Kosmos Energy, which holds a 27% stake, declared last May that first gas was targeted on GTA at the end of 2023.

Bernard Looney, General Manager, said:

Another quarter of performance while transforming. Our underlying performance was resilient with good cash deliveries, during a period of significant turnaround activity and lower margins in our refining business. We are implementing our strategy at a steady pace: we have started up two major oil and gas projects to help maintain the flow of energy today, and we are accelerating our transformation through our five transitional growth engines. And we are offering shareholders an increase in our dividend and announcing a new share buyback. This reflects confidence in our performance and cash flow prospects, as well as continued progress in reducing our share count.
