Senegal: Sangomar Project Production Report (June-September 2024)

From June to September 2024, Senegal recorded total oil production of 8.17 million barrels from the Sangomar project, marking a crucial stage in the rise of the country's oil sector. This period was characterised by a gradual increase in monthly production, supported by the sequenced opening of producing wells.

To date, 11 of the 12 planned wells are fully operational, enabling the country to reach a production plateau of around 3 million barrels per month in August and September. This ramp-up demonstrates the robustness and efficiency of the infrastructure put in place as part of this flagship project.

The volumes of crude oil extracted were sold on the international market thanks to the Léopold Sédar Senghor FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading). A total of 8 cargoes, representing 7.69 million barrels, were delivered to international buyers, reinforcing Senegal's presence on the world energy scene.

Forecasts for 2024 remain optimistic, with the aim of maintaining a production plateau of 100,000 barrels per day during the fourth quarter. This target, which is in line with initial forecasts, will maximise the yield from the Sangomar field while guaranteeing a stable supply of crude oil.

This production report reflects the significant progress made in implementing the Sangomar project, which has put Senegal on the map of the world's oil producers. The government and its partners remain committed to maintaining this performance, while maximising the economic and social benefits for the country.

The Sangomar project, the driving force behind Senegal's energy strategy, symbolises the country's entry into a new era. With production gradually settling into a stable plateau, Senegal is positioning itself as a key player in the regional oil market. The next steps will aim to consolidate this momentum, while continuing efforts to manage natural resources responsibly and sustainably.

The Sangomar project's performance also paves the way for future investment in Senegal's oil sector, strengthening the country's ability to play a leading role in energy supply in West Africa.

This production record not only demonstrates the success of the technical operations, but also underlines Senegal's commitment to optimising its oil resources for sustainable economic development.
