Senegal strengthens its commitment to local content for sustainable development

The Minister for Energy opened the 3rd Local Content Days event

Senegal has reached a new milestone in its local content development policy. At the opening of the 3rd Local Content Days, the Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines, Birame Souleye DIOP, stressed the importance of this sector for the national economy.

"The exploitation of our extractive resources holds out the prospect of development for our country, if we know how to make the most of this new industry", said the Minister. The theme of this year's event is "Local content, first oil and mining: the road to sustainable growth", and it aims to strengthen the integration of local companies into the oil and mining value chains.

The minister called on all players, whether operators, subcontractors, local or foreign companies, to work closely together to maximise the economic benefits of the extractive sector. This collaboration, he said, must be based on partnership, trust and complementarity.

The opening ceremony was also attended by influential figures from the sector, including Dr Mor Bakhoum from the Technical Secretariat of the Comité National de Suivi du Contenu Local (ST-CNSCL), Mamadou Abib Diop, Managing Director of SAR, and Dr Khadim Bamba Diagne, Permanent Secretary of COS PETROGAZ. The participation of Mr Mohamed Batty Lemrabott, representative of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, testifies to the interest shown in this initiative beyond national borders.

The Minister called on all stakeholders - operators, subcontractors, local and foreign companies, state and non-state institutions, as well as the private sector - to work together to build an efficient and responsible extractive industry. "These days must be a catalyst for concrete and innovative action, for the benefit of all", he added.

Mauritania was also in the spotlight with the participation of Mohamed Batty Lemrabott, representative of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, who stressed the need for greater regional collaboration to develop extractive resources in a sustainable manner.

Over the course of the two days, participants had the opportunity to share their experiences, present best practices and identify new avenues for collaboration to strengthen local content in the oil and mining sectors.

This year's Local Content Days mark an important step towards a more inclusive and beneficial use of natural resources, placing local content at the heart of economic and social development.
