Senegal: Minister Birame Souleye DIOP outlines an ambitious roadmap for Petrosen Holding
On August 2, 2024, Senegal's Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines, Birame Souleye DIOP, made a significant visit to the facilities of PETROSEN HOLDING and its subsidiaries, PETROSEN E&P and PETROSEN T&S. The aim of this initiative was to strengthen dialogue with employees, assess working conditions and set out the strategic vision of the national energy policy.
During the visit, Mr. Birame Souleye DIOP highlighted PETROSEN's crucial role in preserving Senegal's energy sovereignty, in line with constitutional principles. He expressed his ambition to see PETROSEN become the country's largest company, reflecting a bold vision for the future of Senegal's energy sector.
To achieve this ambitious goal, the Minister encouraged PETROSEN's General Managers to support employee initiatives and promote fair and respectful management of human capital. He stressed the importance of a favorable working environment, essential for stimulating innovation and efficiency in the hydrocarbon sector.
Senegal is already a major player on the energy scene, with daily oil production of 100,000 barrels. In collaboration with Mauritania, the country is also developing a joint gas field, with planned production of 2.3 million tonnes per year in the first phase. These joint efforts testify to an integrated regional strategy aimed at maximizing available energy resources.
Senegal is also actively seeking a new partner for the development of the Yakaar-Teranga gas field. This field, which contains around 25 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas in place, represents a major opportunity to boost the country's energy capacity and diversify its sources of revenue.
Mr. Birame Souleye DIOP's visit to the facilities of PETROSEN HOLDING and its subsidiaries marks an important step in the consolidation of Senegal's hydrocarbon sector. By reaffirming the importance of energy sovereignty and encouraging a management approach based on respect for human capital, the Minister is charting a clear course towards sustainable, inclusive growth.
Senegal's energy strategy, supported by initiatives such as the visit of the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, demonstrates a strong commitment to developing the hydrocarbon sector. With ambitious projects and strategic partnerships, Senegal is well positioned to become a key player in the regional and international energy landscape.
