Senegal: SAR successfully refines Sangomar crude oil

Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR) has reached a major milestone in its history by successfully refining Senegal's first crude oil, Sangomar. This technical and operational success, announced by SAR's General Management, marks a strategic turning point for Senegal's energy industry and consolidates SAR's position as a key player in the country's quest for energy sovereignty.
Sangomar crude, from the oil fields off the coast of Senegal, has been successfully processed at SAR's facilities. The results are in line with the most demanding international standards, confirming the quality of Senegalese oil and SAR's ability to refine it in the best possible way. By-products, notably fuel oil and diesel, are now being transferred to dedicated storage areas for distribution and marketing.
This success is the fruit of cutting-edge technical expertise and the unfailing commitment of all SAR's teams. It also demonstrates the operational maturity of the company, which was able to mobilise its human and technical resources to meet this major industrial challenge.
SAR's General Management was keen to pay tribute to the collective effort that made this historic breakthrough possible. In an official press release, it paid a heartfelt tribute to all the SAR's staff, whose expertise and determination have played a decisive role. It also expressed its gratitude to the highest authorities in Senegal, as well as to all the technical and financial partners who have supported SAR in this strategic operation.
"This success is a source of national pride. It illustrates our ability to transform our natural resources into added value for our economy and our people. It reinforces our vision of making Senegal a regional petroindustrial hub", said Mamadou Abib DIOPChief Executive Officer of SAR.
The successful refining of Sangomar crude represents a key step in SAR's strategy to strengthen Senegal's energy sovereignty. By processing crude oil into finished products locally, SAR is reducing the country's dependence on fuel imports and contributing to national energy security.
This success also opens up new prospects for the diversification of SAR's activities. It positions the company as a key player in the development of a robust petroleum industry capable of supporting Senegal's economic growth and extending its influence throughout the region.
This success reaffirms SAR's commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. It intends to continue investing in the modernisation of its infrastructure and the development of the skills of its teams, in order to meet the energy challenges of the future.
This historic step forward is part of a wider vision to make Senegal a regional leader in the energy sector, while helping to create jobs, transfer technology and reduce the carbon footprint through more efficient and environmentally-friendly refining processes.
The successful refining of Sangomar crude by SAR is much more than a technical achievement: it is a powerful symbol of Senegal's ability to make the most of its natural resources and build a sustainable energy future. This milestone marks the start of a new era for SAR and for Senegal, one in which innovation, operational excellence and strategic collaboration pave the way for shared energy prosperity.
