Senegal: An economic forum for better revenue management

Le Programme USAID TRACES exécuté par NRGI (Natural Ressource Gouvernance Institute) en consortium avec l’ONG 3D et le Forum Civil a organisé un forum économique sur le secteur extractif à Dakar.

The extractive sector is seen as a fundamental component of Senegal's economic development. This USAID TRACES program, implemented in Senegal by NRGI in consortium with the NGO 3D and the Civil Forum, aims to increase transparency and accountability mechanisms in the mining, oil, and gas sectors for better management and distribution of revenues to benefit all citizens

The opening ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Oil and Energy Mr. Cheikh Niane, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines and Geology Mr. Ibrahima Gueye, the deputy Ayib Daffé of the Commission on Energy and Mineral Resources at the National Assembly, Innocence Ntap Ndiaye President of the High Council for Social Dialogue, Mr. Mamadou Seck, Regional Director of NRGI, and its partners namely USAID represented by its Director Peter Trenchard, Birahim Seck of the Civil Forum. They took this opportunity to remind the general public of the real issues and challenges that await Senegal with these natural resources.

« Dans quelques mois le Sénégal entrera dans le cercle dans pays exportateur de pétrole » déclare le secrétaire général du ministère du pétrole et des Énergies, Cheikh Niane. Il rajoute dans son discours que : « Depuis les 1ères découvertes d’hydrocarbures, le Sénégal s’est engagé sur la voie de réformes profondes dans la gestion des ressources naturelles pour une transformation de la gouvernance »

The USAID director took the opportunity to praise the event and said, "It is always an honor to work with Senegal and we look forward to continuing to support the country in this initiative.
