Senegal: Woodside achieves production of 100,000 barrels per day on Sangomar

The operator of the Sangomar project published its half-year results on Tuesday, revealing significant progress in the development of this offshore oil project in Senegal. According to Woodside Energy, the Sangomar project was 98% complete by the end of the first half of 2024, with a maximum gross production rate of 100,000 barrels per day. At this stage, 22 of the 23 planned wells have been drilled.

On June 30, 2024, Woodside Energy also released its half-year financial results. Managing Director Meg O'Neill hailed the results as evidence of the company's "excellent performance". A detailed analysis shows that the Sangomar project played a key role in offsetting declines in other areas of the company's business.

In the first half of 2024, Woodside achieved a major strategic milestone with first production from Sangomar, Senegal's first offshore oil project. Production ramp-up progressed satisfactorily and, after the reporting period, a maximum gross production rate of 100,000 barrels per day was achieved. Ms. O'Neill expressed her satisfaction at this achievement, pointing out that this success illustrates Woodside's ability to execute world-class projects. She also noted that the Sangomar project will generate sustainable value for Woodside's shareholders, while bringing significant benefits to its partner Petrosen and the people of Senegal.

Woodside reports that the development drilling program is well underway, with 22 of the 23 wells drilled and completed. In addition, a 24th well, approved by the Rufisque, Sangomar and Sangomar Deep (RSSD) joint venture, has also been drilled and completed.

The Group also announced the finalization of sales of the first cargoes of Sangomar crude to European and Asian refiners. The first two cargoes have been loaded and delivered in Europe, while a third cargo has been shipped to Asia.
