South Sudan: Authorities postpone crude production increase target by 2 years

According to a source close to the South Sudanese government, the state will wait until 2026 before attempting to substantially raise its crude oil production plateau, which currently stands at around 170,000 barrels per day. The South Sudanese authorities were planning to increase black gold production to 230,000 b/d D4ICI 2024. This objective now seems unattainable for two fundamental reasons.

The first reason for this is that South Sudan is experiencing operational difficulties caused by a wave of flooding, which is creating major logistical challenges. Recently, the authorities reported a drop in oil production due to flooding. The second is linked to a lack of investment in the oil sector.

In short, it was in response to this situation that the authorities decided to rethink their strategy. Their long-term ambition is to increase oil production to 450,000 b/d, by attracting investors to support government policy.
