Chad: 4 gold mining plants to be built

The president of the transition, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, announced the construction of these factories at the launch of the mining sector day. The location of the plants was not announced by the head of the Chadian government.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of illegal mining in an area where armed gangs are battling for control of the precious metal trade.

With large gold deposits in the mountainous regions of Tibesti and Batha, these plants could have a positive impact on the Chadian economy. The Chadian president specified that revenues from these operations would be allocated to the producing province, in particular the Tibesti region, to finance health, road, educational and environmental infrastructures.

The Chadian Minister of Geology and Mines warns that if the mining sector is exploited with transparency, the country could have around 50 billion CFA francs per week in the Tibesti region.

To encourage economic diversification and the creation of local businesses, the operation should be carried out with a view to public-private partnerships, according to the President of the Transition.
