At the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday 22 January, the President of the Republic made the following appointments Mr Thialy Faye as head of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). He succeeds Madame Oulimata Sarr in this strategic position.
Thialy Faye is a specialist in governance and taxation issues. holder of a postgraduate diploma in environmental law as well as a master 2 in tax policy and administration. His expertise in natural resource management and financial regulation will be a major asset in strengthening transparency and good governance in Senegal's extractive sector.
As Chairman of the EITI, Thialy Faye will be responsible for ensure the transparency of revenues from extractive industries and ensure fair management of the country's oil, gas and mining resources. It will also have to ensure that international standards of transparency are respected, in order to promote responsible exploitation that benefits the national economy.
This appointment comes at a time when Senegal is seeking to optimise the management of its natural resources while introducing more transparent governance. Through this initiative, the government is reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a better distribution of wealth and preventing any opacity in the extractive sector.
Thialy Faye takes over the reins of a key institution that plays an essential role in regulating and supervising the extractive sector, a strategic lever for the country's economic future.
