Mauritania: Ministry of Petroleum signs gas memorandum with Taqa Arabia
On Tuesday in Nouakchott, the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, signed a memorandum with Ing. Karim Chaaban, Executive Director of one of the subsidiaries of the TAQA ARABIA group, committing both parties to negotiations and studies.
The memorandum aims to conclude commercial agreements in various areas of cooperation, carry out feasibility studies for gas projects, evaluate deposits, develop a liquefied natural gas transport pipeline, exchange data and information, and create opportunities in the energy sector in Mauritania.
The Ministry will also share data and information with "TAQA Arabia" to assess opportunities and determine them according to priorities, while this company will conduct studies and evaluate the development of gas fields, indicating that both parties will cooperate to conduct a technical and commercial study around the possible feasibility of LNG pipeline.
The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy stated that this cooperation will make a major contribution to developing Mauritania's gas resources, benefiting from the experience of this pioneering company.
He added that the government was keen to increase the contribution of the energy sector to the national economy, noting that his department would do its utmost to provide appropriate conditions and attractive incentives for its development.
For his part, Mr. Karim Chaaban expressed his pleasure at signing the memorandum, underlining his institution's readiness to partner the Ministry in developing energy infrastructure in Mauritania, and thus play a major role in developing local content through the creation of employment opportunities and the transfer of know-how to the local workforce.
In his turn, Mr. Adly Kafafi, TAQA Arabia's Vice President for Africa, praised the signing of this memorandum, pointing out that it will open up new horizons for TAQA ARABIA, particularly in a country where all the data indicates that it will occupy a leading position in the energy markets of the future, given the enormous energy potential it possesses.
