L'Algérie a exporté plus de 13 millions de tonnes de gaz naturel liquéfié en 2023

In 2023, Algeria exported around 52.4 billion cubic meters of gas, up 6% on the previous year's 49.3 billion cubic meters.

According to data reported by MEES magazine, which specializes in regular analysis of oil and gas developments in the Middle East and North Africa, this growth is mainly attributed to strong demand for liquefied natural gas, prompting the country to consider increasing its production.

Most of this increase comes from liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, which have reached a record level of 13.45 million tonnes in 2023, compared with 11 million tonnes in 2022.

Turkey is positioned as the main importer of Algerian gas, accounting for more than a third of total exports in 2023, reaching a record 4.45 million tonnes.

At the same time, Spain has recorded a significant 300% increase in LNG imports from Algeria compared with 2022.

Anticipating persistent global demand, especially for LNG, Algeria has revised its production targets upwards. The country is aiming for production of 30 million tonnes over the next few years, according to medium-term forecasts from Algerian oil company Sonatrach.

Annual growth in hydrocarbon production in Algeria is expected to reach 3.5%, driven mainly by gas production.
