Côte d'Ivoire : Le pétrole coule à flot avec 22 000 barils/jour du gisement Baleine

Preliminary production data from Côte d'Ivoire's "Baleine" oilfield have been revealed. Last Thursday, the Ivorian Minister of Mines, Oil and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, presented the first production results from the "Baleine" field.

It was reported that since August 2023, phase 1 of the Baleine operation has been operational, generating daily production of 22,000 barrels of crude oil and ten million cubic feet of natural gas delivered to the power sector.

As for the current phase 2, the Minister specified that it aims to increase production to 60,000 barrels of oil and 80 million cubic feet of natural gas per day by the end of the current year. He also mentioned the significant discovery of the "Calao" deposit in early March 2024, on block CI-205.

This development symbolizes Côte d'Ivoire's rise as a major oil, gas and energy producer, with a total production potential estimated at around 2.5 billion barrels of oil and almost 3,300 billion cubic feet of associated gas.

To guarantee the country's natural gas supply and optimize electricity generation, the Ivorian government is planning to build a gas terminal with liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facilities and storage capacities adapted to the national context.
