Gabon: junta appoints former Eramet executive as Oil Minister
The junta that has seized power in OPEC member Gabon appointed Marcel Abeke, a former executive of French mining company Eramet, as the country's new oil minister on Saturday.
Abeke was an executive with the company, which operates a manganese mine in Gabon, until last March, when he was appointed to a new 12-person high commission responsible for evaluating and implementing government action.
Gabon's economy relies heavily on oil exports for revenue. It produces around 200,000 barrels per day (b/d) of crude oil, making it OPEC's second smallest producer.
