Norwegian offshore drilling company Odfjell Drilling has, on behalf of Northern Ocean, agreed a contract extension for the Deepsea Bollsta drilling rig with Shell.

Northern Ocean, the owner of the drilling rig, has stated that the firm term of the contract has been extended from December 2023 for six months to June 2024, with an additional six-month option.

Northern Ocean's second platform, the Deepsea Mira, left Bergen, Norway, in early April 2023, and began mobilizing to the first well site in Namibia for its multi-country contract with TotalEnergies.

"The platform has experienced delays in loading equipment and carrying out required maintenance during transit, and we are now aiming for contract commencement at the end of the second quarter," said Northern Ocean.
