Senegal officially joins the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Senegal officially joined the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) as an observer member at the ministerial meeting held in Algiers on March 1, 2024. This membership marks a historic step for the country, which is preparing to exploit its significant natural gas resources.
A new chapter for Senegal's gas industry
The GECF is an intergovernmental organization comprising 19 member countries and 7 observer countries. Its mission is to promote cooperation between natural gas exporting countries and defend their interests on the international stage. By joining the GECF, Senegal intends to benefit from the experience and know-how of other forum members in the field of natural gas production, management and marketing.
A catalyst for economic and social development
Senegal's ambition is to become a regional energy hub by exploiting its gas resources. Membership of the GECF will enable the country to benefit from technical and financial support to develop its gas industry and strengthen its human capacities.
Responsible use of natural resources
Senegal is committed to exploiting its gas resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, in line with the GECF principles. The country intends to use natural gas to improve the well-being of its people, in particular by promoting universal access to electricity and stimulating industrialization.
