Petrofac, a specialist oilfield services company, recently signed a four-year contract with BP to provide operational services for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) natural gas project, located between Mauritania and Senegal. The multi-million dollar contract covers a wide range of services. These include the management and supervision of both onshore and offshore operations, the provision of qualified personnel, and equipment maintenance.

Since 2022, Petrofac has been involved in providing operational services for the floating production, storage and offloading vessel, as well as for the liquefied natural gas platform. In addition, the company has developed operational procedures for 2021. This contract extension testifies to BP's confidence in Petrofac, and supports Petrofac's strategy of selective geographic expansion, as outlined by Nick Shorten, COO of Petrofac's Asset Solutions business.

In addition, Rebecca King, Vice President of Production for Mauritania and Senegal at BP, pointed out that Petrofac is already providing deck crew services for the GTA project. She believes that this new contract, for the provision of mechanical handling services for offshore and deepwater installations, will further strengthen the collaboration between the two companies.

In December 2023, construction of the Pioneering Spirit by Allseas marked the start of pipeline laying work on the GTA project. This work includes the laying of approximately 75 km of pipelines, including two 16" export gas pipelines and four 10" ARC pipelines, accompanied by multiple structures. The Tortue/Ahmeyim gas field, at the heart of this project, is estimated to contain around 15 trillion cubic feet of gas resources.
