Cameroon: Perenco launches a drilling campaign for five wells offshore the country.

Perenco Rio del Rey, one of Perenco's Cameroonian subsidiaries, has started a five-well development drilling campaign on the Kita Eden field in the northern part of the Rio del Rey basin, offshore Cameroon.

Due to its shallow waters, 4 meters deep, and strong currents, no drilling has taken place in this field since 1984.

However, Perenco and its services subsidiary, Dixstone, successfully designed and built a shallow-water barge specifically for the campaign. The barge will complement Dixstone's LUG platform, which has delivered more than 16 million barrels of oil to Cameroon over the past five years.

The drilling campaign is part of Perenco Rio del Rey's commitment following the signing in 2023 of a twenty-year license agreement with the state of Cameroon and its partner Addax Petroleum Cameroun.

"Once again, we are demonstrating our strong commitment and ability to unlock stranded reserves in very mature fields. Thanks to this campaign, Cameroon can expect the Kita Eden field to continue producing for decades to come," said Armel Simondin, Managing Director of Perenco Rio del Rey and CEO-designate of the Perenco Group.

Perenco entered Cameroon in 1993 with the acquisition of the Moudi concession, in association with Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures. This historic partnership has been strengthened by various acquisitions and innovative oil and gas projects.

Back in 2013, Perenco in Cameroon embarked on the development of the Sanaga gas field, to supply the KPDC power plant, which provides 30% of the country's electricity.

Today, Perenco is Cameroon's leading national oil operator, with production of 90,000 boe/d (50% oil and 50% gas).
