Côte d'Ivoire : Eni fait une découverte majeure au large du pays

Italian energy giant Eni has announced a second major hydrocarbon discovery in Côte d'Ivoire, dubbed Calao. Located on block CI-205, around 45 kilometers off the coast of Côte d'Ivoire, this discovery is the second largest in the country after the Baleine field, also to be discovered by Eni in 2021.

The Murene 1X exploration well, drilled to a total depth of 5,000 metres, encountered light oil, gas and condensate. Preliminary estimates indicate a resource potential of between 1 and 1.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent, consolidating Côte d'Ivoire's status as a promising new frontier for oil and gas exploration in West Africa.

This major discovery is the fruit of a solid partnership between Eni and the national oil company Petroci Holding. Eni has been operating in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015 and holds interests in six deepwater blocks, including block CI-205 where the Calao discovery was made.

Eni's success in Côte d'Ivoire doesn't stop there. Production from the Baleine field, which began in August 2023, currently stands at around 22,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

In conclusion, the Calao discovery represents a new milestone for Eni and Côte d'Ivoire. This discovery confirms the country's oil and gas potential and paves the way for new economic and social development opportunities.
