African oil and gas contracts down 18% in May 2022

Oil and gas contracts in Africa fell by 18% in May 2022 to 18 contracts, down from 22 contracts the previous month, according to GlobalData's Oil and Gas Contracts Database.
Activity was down by 31%, compared to the previous 12-month average of 26 contracts.
Procurement activity in Africa in May 2022
In terms of country contracts, Mauritania led the way in May 2022 with three contracts representing a 17% share of all oil and gas contracts, followed by Nigeria and Senegal with two contracts and an 11% share each.
On a 12-month moving average basis, Nigeria took first place with four contracts, followed by Egypt and Angola with three and two contracts respectively.

In terms of oil and gas contracts by segment in Africa, the upstream segment contributed the most in terms of contracts awarded, with 12 contracts in May 2022, followed by midstream and petrochemicals with four and one contract respectively.
Contracts by scope of work in Africa in May 2022
In May 2022, the majority of contracts awarded were for design and engineering with 10 contracts, followed by operation and maintenance and procurement with nine and four contracts, respectively.
