Mauritanie : Signature d'un contrat d’exploration et de production des champs gaziers "Banda & Tevet"

The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, has officially signed a gas exploration and production contract with the "Go gas" and "Taqa Arabia" consortium, represented by Mr. Khaled Abu Bakr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gogas. This strategic agreement concerns the exploitation of the gas reserves of the "Banda and Tevet" fields in the Mauritanian coastal basin.

The "Banda" and "Tevet" fields are estimated to have total reserves of 2.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

This project will have a significant impact on electricity production in Mauritania, as the extracted gas will supply the 180-megawatt dual power plant located north of Nouakchott. In addition, the contract will provide additional power reserves to meet growing energy demand, benefiting partners such as SNIM and SOMELEC, and ensuring a reliable supply of electricity to the country's industrial and mining hubs.

In his speech, the Minister stressed that this agreement represents a major step forward in the development of the country's gas resources, strengthening the energy sector and stimulating investment in the exploration and production of the country's oil and gas reserves. He also emphasized the strong presence of local content in the project, particularly in terms of employment, know-how transfer and equipment acquisition and exchange opportunities.

Mr. Muhammad Khaled Abu Bakr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gogas, expressed his pride in his group's involvement in this promising economic project. He underlined the great potential of this project to generate electricity for the local market, praising the climate of security and political stability in Mauritania, which favors the implementation of vast investment projects, particularly in the energy sector.
